Welcome to Helyea
A shack, an acre, a bay.
Helyea is a two-bedroom shack on a one-acre block in Lunawanna, on Bruny Island’s southern half. It sleeps up to six, with one room offering a queen and double bed and the other a queen. The land borders Daniels Bay; the view runs out through the eucalypts and across the water.
It is a deliberately simple place. Inside there is a wood heater, Starlink internet, and modern amenities. For the cooler months, outside there is a brick fireplace, the bush, and birdsong. We ask guests to leave it the way they found it — the shack works best when the next traveller arrives to the same quiet.
Minimum stay two nights, one hundred dollars a night. Couples, families and pets are all welcome. Enquire about your dates and we’ll write back.

A modest footprint, considered amenities, and an outlook that does most of the work. The indoor fireplace warms the lounge; the outdoor fireplace anchors the covered outdoor area on a cool evening.

What you’ll see
Surrounded by nature
Pademelons graze at dusk, wallabies cross the track at first light, antechinus rustle in the leaf litter, and the yellow-tailed black cockatoos call across the gums. The birdlife alone is reason enough.
Wallabies
Bennett’s wallabies cross the track at first light and again at sunset. Drive slowly on the Lunawanna road — they don’t look both ways.

Big, slow, unmistakable. Their long wailing call carries across the gums in the late afternoon — always look up.
Beyond the gate
Bruny Island, on your doorstep.
South of the neck, north of the lighthouse, halfway between cheese and oysters — Helyea sits in the middle of the island’s best.
